Conference / Meeting, Exhibition

The LvivMozArt International Festival of Classical Music and Borys Voznytskyi National Art Gallery of Lviv invite you to the opening of the exhibition, dedicated to the music life of the city in early 19th century and an emblematic musical figure of that time – Franz Xaver Mozart. The exposition includes unique historic manuscripts, notes, and artifacts.

But how were musical clusters (institutions) established? What historic figures were promotive of it?

The first music school in Lviv was founded in 1839 by the Galician music society. The conservatory was founded in 1853. The philharmonic opened its doors only in 1902. The establishment of such institutions with a specific focus on musical education and practice was a result of active music life in the city in the beginning of 19th century and took place at a time of growing of the Austrian empire, the Napoleonian wars, active urbanization, the Romanticism era. At this time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s son – Franz Xaver – came to Galicia and greatly influenced the music life of Lviv.
